So the good formulas are the ones where you can follow the notation. If you don't succeed, then it relies on the coordinates in question. If you succeed in writing something in Einstein notation, then chances are big that it's coordinate invariant. The great part is that Einstein notation actually tells you something about geometry. Vectors are written with a lower index and covectors with an upper index. Basically, you have vectors and covectors. The genius in the Einstein notation is knowing which indices come above and which below. The genius in Einstein notation is not that we can leave out the signs, of course. In that case, we leave out the summation sign and write We see that one index i is above and one index i is below. The notation convention just says that you can leave out summation signs. The summation convention? Please do explain, someone! If Wannabe is liking it, I'd love to understand it! Hints of mass-energy equivalence date from the 1800s too īut Einstein put all the ideas together, lined up all the ducks in a row, and had to invent new math too.Īlso back in those days they didnt have email & arxiv. In 1899 Lorentz assumed that the electrons undergo length contraction. There were many "almost made it" moments - Lorentz come up with his transformation in 1895. There may be said to several collateral or secondary paradigm shifts in physics created by Einstein, but the fundamental ones in relation to relativity was a shift from Newtonian conception of gravity as an "attractive force" to one of gravity as "curved spacetime," and the shift from the conception of "time" as the universal constant of spacetime to "lightspeed" as the universal constant.Įveryone had been thinking the same way as Newton for 200 years & Maxwell for 40 years. This reversal of the roles of the physics and the coordinates seems to me to be worthy of the term 'paradigm shift'. He thus took the light as the fixed quantity and ascribed the results to the coordinates and clocks. He said things like ' the moving clock runs slow', and 'the moving rod is shorter than the stationary one'. He didn't say things like 'the light takes more time to reach A than to reach B'. In his analysis of light he also used coordinates and time, but he did not describe his results as properties of light. The coordinates remained fixed by some condition outside the projectile analysis.īut Einstein turned the relation around. The results were considered to be properties of the projectile. For example, the position of a projectile could be given as a function of time. īut there is another idea, perhaps related to the two mentioned, that lurks in his writing that I haven't seen mentioned.īefore Einstein the custom was to form the coordinates and time and use them as fixed quantities to describe a given physics problem. ![]() I agree that these two principles were inspired ideas that made major changes in how people thought about things. The equivalence principle that led to general relativity: The effects of gravitational force are indistinguishable from the effects of acceleration in the absence of gravity, so we don't need to treat gravity as a force if we don't want to. The second postulate of special relativity, which could be informally (but with, in my opinion, historical accuracy) paraphrased as "We don't need no steenkin' ether!" ![]() ![]() ![]() Despite the voluminous size of the secondary literature that it has produced, his work remains a continuing source of productivity. (A two-volume selection was published in German in 1955, with a full edition not appearing until 1972–89 English anthologies first appeared in 19 the four-volume Selected Writings, 1996–2003.) Originally received in the context of literary theory and aesthetics, the philosophical depth and cultural breadth of Benjamin's thought have only recently begun to be fully appreciated. The delayed appearance of Benjamin's collected writings has determined and sustained the Anglophone reception of his work. In the 1930s, Benjamin's efforts to develop a politically oriented, materialist aesthetic theory proved an important stimulus for both the Frankfurt School of Critical Theory and the Marxist poet and dramatist Bertolt Brecht. Adorno's conception of philosophy's actuality or adequacy to the present (Adorno 1931). They were a decisive influence upon Theodor W. Primarily regarded as a literary critic and essayist, the philosophical basis of Benjamin's writings is increasingly acknowledged. Walter Benjamin's importance as a philosopher and critical theorist can be gauged by the diversity of his intellectual influence and the continuing productivity of his thought. When Venture Out opened in 1970, only the Administration building and Bathhouse # 1 were built. Who knows what further evolution’s in design lot owners will approve in the years ahead? All these changes were voted on by the lot owners. Originally Venture Out was designated for only ‘travel trailers’ but through the years, the owners have voted to change their governing documents to first allow park models, then allow an attached awning, then the attached awning was allowed to be developed as an Arizona room and finally the Arizona rooms were allowed to raised to the same height as the park model. Owners that were under 55 at the time, could still be owners but from that day forward, every unit sold or occupied had to have at least one owner who was 55 years of age. Venture Out had to go through the process of satisfying the federal law and applied for that legal designation. In 1988, Federal Fair Housing Laws made Adults Only communities illegal and only 55 Plus or 62 plus communities were legal. Venture Out at Mesa was different however and started off with the concept of Adults Only. Five Venture Out’s started off as family communities and retain that today. Venture Out at Mesa evolved into an activity-based community, focusing greatly on sports, hobby’s and club activities. The Florida Venture Outs are all based on the ocean & beach lifestyle, and many owners have boats docked next to their homes. The Venture Outs in Tennessee are located next to State and National park lands and take advantage of the boating and fishing activities. Lots were originally offered at $3900 a space and the first lot was sold in January of 1970.Īll six Venture Outs began to evolve in different directions dictated by their natural surroundings. Three of those spaces became driveways into the far corners of the property and unfortunately the North West corner was sold off in the early stages of development, leaving only 160 acres. Venture Out started as 200 acres of cotton, onions and barley and was developed originally into 1752 RV spaces. Since Gulf Oil’s business was oil and pipelines, Venture Out at Mesa benefited by having some of the best heavy-duty PVC pipe that was currently in the market, installed for water and sewer lines. This is perhaps one of the best things that happened to Venture Out. When Kreis and Epperson were in the early stages of development, they realized they needed a partner with deep pockets and convinced Gulf Oil Corporation to come on board. Two communities, Panama City and Cudjoe Keys both recently took direct hits from hurricanes and those 50-year-old buildings withstood winds that otherwise caused massive damage across the parks. Lucie Florida, all based on ocean and beach front recreation and at the same time developed Mesa Arizona as the largest community of the six.Ī twelve-sided design was used for the club houses and bathhouses in Florida that was supposed to withstand hurricanes, the same design was modified for Arizona. Things progressed rapidly and soon the two partners were developing four more Venture Out resorts, in Cudjoe Key, Panama Beach City and St. So of course, they built a second Venture Out, in Gatlinburg Tennessee. When the word got out, they had more applicants for the RV spots than they had accommodations. ![]() Two entrepreneurs, Hazen Kreis and Bob Epperson, were able to put their dreams down on paper and built their first resort on the banks of Lake Tansi In Tennessee. Back then they were looking for the basics clean bathrooms, a pool, maybe a tennis court, a clubhouse would be a bonus. Early enthusiasts found that they were often disappointed in RV park accommodations, when, they were able to find them. Venture Out was first conceived of in 1968 as a possible solution for the rapidly increasing leisure activity of ‘travel trailers’ that were appearing on America’s highways. ![]() ![]() ![]() For larger plants, cut shrubs at ground level and consider applying herbicide to the stump to prevent regrowth.Care must be taken to extract the entire root otherwise stump sprouting is likely to occur. Herbicide application following stem-cutting can be an effective combination. Heavily mulching and then re-vegetating the infested area with native plants or non-invasive garden ornamentals can help prevent re-establishment of Spanish broom. The stems of large shrubs can be cut however, re-sprouting will occur unless the cut stump is treated with herbicide. The best time to hand-pull is between July and September, especially when the soil is dry. Otherwise, the root fragments will re-sprout new plants. Hand-pulling can be effective when shrubs are still small and the entire root structure can be removed. Small plants and seedlings can be effectively controlled through hand hoeing. Fortunately, seeds do not appear to germinate when covered with 10 cm of soil, so heavy mulching may be an effective means to prevent new infestations. How Do I Control It? General Control Strategyīecause Spanish broom produces so many seeds, it is important to watch for new seedlings, especially if the soil is disturbed. Seeds can remain dormant for at least five years, although broom seeds have been shown to survive for over 25 years. One plant can produce between 7,000 to 10,000 seeds in just one growing season. ![]() Spanish broom reproduces primarily by seed. Please click here to see a county level distribution map of Spanish broom in Washington. Like Scotch broom, it is typically found in disturbed areas including eroded slopes, vacant lots, and roadsides. Its high tolerance to drought and ability to produce nitrogen allow this shrub to grow in sunny, dry, areas with poor, often rocky soil. If you need help with identification, please contact your county noxious weed coordinator Where does it grow? From a distance, Spanish broom looks very similar to Scotch broom ( Cytisus scorparious), which is a Class B noxious weed in Washington. ![]() ![]() We provide Resumeable single direct link Rhinoceros 2021 Download for Mac.
